Canadian influencer Alicia Mccarvell has some words for people who disagree with her promoting a supplement brand. The Halifax-based content creator shared a post this week featuring screenshots of various social media users questioning her connection to Cira Nutrition.
One of the longest comments called Mccarvell “morbidly obese” and questioned the legitimacy of her relationship to her husband, Scott, alleging he was only married to her because of a fetish and not because of love. Others shared blatant comments like “how ironic” and “promoting health?”
Mccarvell was quick to note that the Canadian-based brand is “for everyone” and has “nothing” to do with losing weight.
“That’s literally why this brand was created. To break down the stigma around ‘who’ should be using what, and ‘what’ people using supplements should look like,” Mccarvell, who’s often been outspoken about body-shaming in the past, wrote in her post on Monday. “These stigmas are what kept me from taking care of myself. I thought none of it mattered unless I was getting smaller.”
She continued being adamant in her body-positive mindset: “Everyone deserves to take care of themselves. Everyone is entitled to take care of themselves. Every body deserves nutrition no matter what it looks like.”
In the comments section of the post, people stood with Mccarvell in questioning the replies from trolls. Many also showed their support for the self-love advocate.
“The double sided ‘you don’t look like what I think healthy should looks like’ mixed with ‘you shouldn’t be participating in healthy things’ is truly wild,” wrote fellow Canadian influencer Sarah Nicole Landry.
“These comments are so embarrassing. I hope that single momma raising her babies is teaching them to be kinder and more accepting than she is. You’re amazing, Alicia,” added Canadian poet Josie Balka.
“Didn’t know only skinny, fit people need to stay hydrated and take vitamins. That’s news to me,” a Facebook user commented.
“This has got to get exhausting for you to constantly have to defend your body like this. People are awful,” another chimed in.
“Cira is absolutely for everyone! We love you so much and we’re extremely grateful to have you — thank you for being you,” the official Cira Nutrition Instagram account commented on the post.
In June, Mccarvell shared a video explaining her connection to the supplement brand, noting she first started with Cira Nutrition five years ago. Back then, she noted how not everyone believed there was room for her in the wellness space.
Her first product with the brand was the Self-Love Lemonade, an electrolyte drink mix aiming to boost hydration. And after working with the brand and creating numerous other products, Mccarvell shared she became a part owner of the company this past January.
“Working with the Cira Nutrition team has been one of the best experiences of my life,” Mccarvell said in that clip. “And we have created some of the coolest things I have ever been a part of.”
