Here are the best employers in North Texas, according to Forbes

Every year, Forbes ranks the largest employers in America. Here’s which North Texas companies made the cut.

DALLAS — Six large North Texas companies are considered the best to work for, according to Forbes latest best large employers list. 

Forbes ranked 700 large companies, considered large because they employ more than 5,000 people, based on survey responses from 217,000 employees working at companies within the U.S.

Forbes also ranked 500 midsize companies, with between 1,000 and 5,000 employees. Four North Texas companies made that list. 

North Texas’ economy is booming, gaining 100 corporate headquarters from 2018 to 2024, the Dallas Business Journal reported. Public companies that were previously based on the coasts have increasingly settled in North Texas, representing $1.5 trillion in value. 

So, which North Texas companies made the list? Here’s a breakdown of the results: 

41. Cook Children’s Health Care System in Fort Worth

North Texas’ top-ranked employer was Cook Children’s, based in Fort Worth. The organization employs 9,000 people. The system includes two medical centers, two surgery centers, a physician network, home health services and a health plan. It also includes the Child Study Center at Cook Children’s, Cook Children’s Health Services Inc., and Cook Children’s Health Foundation. 

52. Toyota North America in Plano

Toyota North America employs 59,000 people. The company announced it would move its U.S. headquarters from the Los Angeles suburbs to Plano in 2014. 

95. Atmos Energy in Dallas

Atmos, which provides natural gas services, employs 5,260 people. In a press release on Tuesday, the company celebrated being named one of the top 100 employers in the U.S. 

“Being recognized yet again is a direct reflection of the passion and commitment to safety that our employees bring to work every day,” Matt Robbins, Atmos Energy senior vice president of human resources, said in the release. 

Atmos also placed 761st in the 2025 Fortune 500 ranking. 

99. Texas Health Resources in Arlington

Rounding out the top 100, Texas Health Resources employs 29,000 people. The company has been ranked on the best places to work list for eleven years in a row, according to the company. The health system includes Texas Health Physicians Group, hospitals, outpatient facilities, Neighborhood Care & Wellness Centers, home health and preventive and fitness services.

111. Southwest Airlines in Dallas 

Southwest is one of the region’s biggest employers with 72,450 employees. The airline has undergone a series of major changes in the last year, and exactly one year ago laid off 1,750 employees at its headquarters for the first time in company history. 

Still, its signature company culture seems to have kept Southwest on the list of best employers nine times, including in 2025. 

112. JPS Health Network in Fort Worth

The final large North Texas employer to make the list, JPS employs 7,200 people. It is Tarrant County’s public health system and operates a 582-bed hospital, plus more than 25 community-based clinics. It is also the county’s largest teaching institution and the most comprehensive provider of behavioral health services.
